Bienvenidos Buenos Aires!

After a quick flight to Miami, a long layover, and a longer flight to Buenos Aires, we have arrived!  Locals pronounce it: Whey-nos-arrrh-ehs, and now, so do we.  Our experience today: a driver who said his English was not very good (but whose English was just fine); a boutique hotel that's EVERYTHING you'd want in a small hotel - pool, sauna, great location, dandy concierge, deep bench wine cellar, fabulous restaurant, included wine tasting, and fine dining; and a giant (and well-appointed) room with a marvelous rain shower shower.  Ahhhhhh!

We got in early and were picked up by our driver, Felix.  He told us his English was terrible, but it was actually much better than our Spanish (it's only our first day here...give us a break!).  We got checked in early (blessing), and we headed out to meet our on-the-ground hostess, Marina (our tour operator from Anda Travel).  We used Zicasso Travel Agency, and picked (Bachelorette-style from a couple of options) Victoria, Elvira, and Marina to be our guides.  Highly recommended and totally worth it.

Over a delicious coffee, Marina went over our schedule while here in BA and later in Santiago, Chile.

We had lunch at a lovely French cafe and pulled some cash from a nearby ATM before crashing into napsville...so fucking tired!

Our lovely hotel has a wonderful restaurant and an adjacent wine cellar.  We booked a wine tasting right before our dinner reservation at the hotel this evening...just what the doctor ordered - close by and delicious...and just exactly what we needed on this first day.

The tasting was excellent - three wines from three different regions in Argentina.  A sparkling wine from Patagonia, a wonderful white from the north, and a Malbec from the heart of Argentina.

All delicious!

After the tasting, we headed over to the restaurant for dinner and capped it off with a fortified late harvest wine (think a light port wine) and lava cake.

I like Buenos Aires!  Tomorrow is a city tour with time on our own.  We've already identified some local craft beer spots...shocking, I know...and maybe a walk through the botanical gardens...we'll see what the day brings.

For now, it's time to sleep and re-energize.  Buenos noches.
